I make decisions by separating what I know from what I believe. I write down my assumptions, assign rough confidence levels, and prioritize based on what would change the decision most if I was wrong.
I use design as a forcing function. A well-crafted prototype surfaces disagreements faster than any spec doc. If a team can't agree on a wireframe, they can't agree on the product, and it's better to know that early.
Design is how I communicate intent.
I don't view design as a handoff step. I use it throughout discovery, to visualize options, to stress-test logic, to make abstract ideas concrete enough to argue about.
This means I'm comfortable going deep into Figma with a designer, but I'm equally comfortable stepping back and asking "does this solve the problem, or does it just look like it does?"
The best products aren't the most designed ones. They're the ones where every design decision traces back to a specific user need or business goal.
